Kobots – Review

Hold onto your hats, there’s another playground craze gonna hit your child’s school any minute soon. The Kobots are coming – You have been warned.

To give them their full title, The Kobots Federation are from Magic Box Int. The same people who brought us the GoGo’s Crazy Bones, and probably got the whole playground pocket-money toys ball really rolling.

Kobots are small plastic figures, which you twist into a sort of circular base. You use a Krator, which is essentially a small plastic plectrum to launch your Kobot into battle.

We tested out the Kobots Starter Pack, within which you get a Sticker Book (which also explains the rules of the games, and all about the Kobots related info you need to know to play) Two Kobots figures, Two Bases, plus a Kobotron and game arena.

We also received one of the blind Bags which contains 2 Kobots Figures, 2 Stickers, 2 bases, 2 figures and one Krator for the thrifty little price of £1.50. Great value for money to be had there.

The thing I like about Kobots, is that like the Gogo’s of old there is so much you can do with them – Perhaps even more so.

Even though there are only two main games to play (Kobotron and Battle), there is so much room for creative strategy within Kobots that I think this is enough to be getting on with. Children will make up more games as they go along, as again happened with the Crazy Bones. (Sorry for bringing up Gogo’s a lot but I still have over 500 here, so they were a big thing for us for a few years)

The strategy comes into play with deciding what tools to go into battle with. Firstly you’ll need to decide which of your Kobots you are going to send into battle.

There are 48 different figures which form 6 different teams, and each figure has a home and away kit. So that’s 96 to choose from in total.

The six teams are:

  • Phenix
  • Knightimals
  • Star Raiders
  • Silicon Copper
  • Ultradozers
  • Ninjaris

Each Kobot has its own attack and defence value printed up on its base. So you’ll need to choose wisely  if you want to stay in the game.  This Kobot called VR-TRON from the Silicon Copper tram only has an Attack value of 60, but makes up for it with an impressive defence of 480.

Next it’s time to choose which Krator you use. There are 3 types, Thunder (Green) , Colossus (Red) and Titan (Blue)

The green Krator is the best to start with as a new player, it’s soft and easy to shoot with. As you move up to the Thunder and Titan, the Krator’s get thicker, but power is not always everything. You need to have the skills to be able to use it.

Lastly you have the base. You can either put your Kobot on the base facing upwards, if you want to shoot horizontally. By putting your Kobot into the upturned base you’ll be able to make some amazing jump shoots.

If all that strategy your little one is after a bit of a break, filling in their stick album will provide a bit of light relief. Theres so much information in the sticker album, that itself is guaranteed to keep them busy.

I really like the Kobots, and have been enjoying flicking them around with the boys. Trying to perfect my skills at the Kobotron. At £3.99 for the starter pack, and only £1.50 for the blind bags you can’t go wrong really. They are the perfect pocket-money toy. Stickers, 2 toy figures in every pack – Well worth it.

Magic Box Int have a brilliant Youtube channel with tons of videos explaining everything you could ever wish to know about the Kobots. All the Teams, All the Games, How to Play, Everything is covered.

Make sure you head over there to check them out :http://www.youtube.com/user/magicboxint

Gogo’s Crazy Bones Superstars

New school year, New set of Gogo’s Crazy bones!

The Gogo’s Crazy Bones Superstars are reproductions of the 80 most wanted and famous Gogo’s, plus the 4 most sought after Gogos from the first four series. Just to differentiate themselves from the originals (or the cynic in me says to sell more) they are all decked out in a special Fuzzy or Metal paint effects.

As with the other series there is a sticker album to accompany the series. As well as profiles on all of the Superstars, info on all the go go’s from series 1 through to 4 is included, plus a game guide to get you ready and prepped for all of those tough playground battles.

Each packet contains 2 Gogo’s, 2 Stickers for your album and 1 Gogo’s cube.  The Gogo’s cubes are similar to the cubes which came with the Gogo’s Mega Metropolis series. They are little storage cubes which clip together, to help you stack and arrange your go go’s collection.

Gogo’s fans can also look forward to a new Gogo’s Crazy Bones comic which is being released by Titan Magazines. The first issue is out 9th September, and comes with a special collectors tin and a Superstar Gogo to start off your collection.

Gogo’s Crazy Bones Board Game – Review

This is a review of the new Gogo’s Crazy Bones board game from Imagination games. I’ve got to admit I really don’t understand the appeal of Gogo’s, but the kids love them (including mine) so I thought we’d give this game a go.

We tucked little one off to bed, and Me, Daddy and Thomas set up the game. Jacob is just about 2 years old (two weeks to go!) and as such he’s too young to play with Gogo’s and too impatient to sit and watch everyone else play the game (we did try it a few nights before and it didn’t work).

When you open up the box you will find, a game board, counters, a dice, set of game rules, and two Gogo’s. You will probably need to add your own Gogo’s to make it more of a game, two really isn’t enough to get the most fun out of it, especially if there are more than two players. There is enough counters for up to 6 players. However I imagine if you buy the board game your bound to have some Gogo’s hanging about just itching to play.

Before you start the game all the players choose a Gogo mover and collect your four matching colour counters. If your playing with your own Gogo’s and you have enough to go round, when you’ve turned the counter upside down place a Gogo onto. Once all the set up is done, you can get down to playing the game.
The object of the game is simple, to be the first player with three home bases marked. Along the way you will need to enter into Dice Battles with your opponents in order to gain control of the Home bases.
The Dice Battles are the bread and butter of the game really, all the rest is just moving around the board until you get into one. When you enter into a Dice Battle you need to choose one of your counters and then spin the dice. The counter has a Battle score printed on it, for example…-2 or +3. Use your dice score and then add or subtract your Battle Score accruing to the card instructions, your opponent does the same. This is the score you are left with and however has the highest score wins the Dice Battle, and can mark the Home Base as theirs. If you lose the battle your card is lost and you need to travel back to your Home Base to collect it again.
We found the Dice Battles to be more interesting if you have a Gogo placed on each of your counters. Thomas liked choosing which Gogo to send into battle rather than just choosing which counter to turn over. If you were playing with older children this could obviously facilitate cheating, by remembering the scores underneath which Gogo to choose the best one. However being only just 4 it wasn’t   a problem with Thomas and I’m not sure how much it would skew the results anyway.
To be honest I wasn’t too impressed with the game but then again it’s not aimed at me is it.It was too simple in that the Dice Battles were all there was too it, but I suppose that’s the main thing the kids do with the Gogo’s so you can’t complain. Thomas loved it all, he appreciated being a big boy and having a family game night, and he really enjoyed the battling elements of the game.
If you have a Gogo’s fan in the house they are going to love this game, either playing with the family or with there own friends. Parents will be happy enough playing along, however they might find it slightly boring.
All in all a good buy that would be perfect either for the family game night or for after the Christmas Dinner.

Gogo’s Crazy Bones Board Game

Well I just knew we hadn’t heard the last of those Crazy Bones, but this time there moving out of the playground and heading for your living room.

Now us parents get to play a part in the Gogo’s Crazy Bones phenomenon, that until now has been the reserve of school kids up and down the country.

From the looks of it, the Gogo’s Crazy Bones board game seems relitavely simple, but as with most things that probably makes it all the more addictive.

The basic premise is to choose your home colour , and then travel around the board trying to capture the other 3 home squares.  You will encounter battles along your way, which will involve the rolling of dice and either adding or subtracting the number from your Gogo’s card.

You can either play as a normal game without using Gogo’s characters, or you can play for keeps by placing your Gogo’s on top of the cards.

The game comes with 500 Gogo’s cards, so I presume all 4 series of Gogo’s are included but I’m not sure. There isn’t much information about the game out there at the moment, it seems to be a bit shrouded in mystery. It’s due for release on 01 October, and so after that I’ll be able to write a more indepth review.

I predict that this will be a massive seller this Xmas, as kid’s just seem to have an insatiable appitite for all things Crazy Bones at the minute. I can see this game really bringing all the family together around the room after the Christmas Dinner, so if you ever wanted to see what Gran would be like playing Gogo’s here’s your chance.

Game Rules:

To start off with you will need four trading cards and 1 Gogo, each small pack contains two Gogo’s and two cards. The Starter pack contains 4 Gogo’s, 4 cards, rule sheet and Gogo list and a collectors album to store your cards. I was surprised that you don’t get the same card as the Gogo’s you get, they are both different, however Gogo’s really are not that significant in this game the cards are the important things.

You will notice that each Gogo has one of three power symbols printed on the picture side of the card. This is your Gogo’s power, Illustrated by either a Bolt,Swirl or Star. When playing the game, whether you win or lose depends on which power types you and your fellow player have chosen. A star beats Bolt, Bolt beats swirl and Swirl beats star, this is pictured on the back of the cards to help you remember. So if you pick to play a Gogo with a Star power and your competitor produces a Swirl powered card, you lose and player two gets one point.

On the back of the card is a big picture of one of the symbols, this is used when you select a card as a K.O card.

To start the game you take your 4 cards, select one as your K.O card and place your chosen Gogo on top of the symbol. Your opponent also places their K.O card across from yours. You then take turns playing your cards one by one, winning one point each turn if you have the winning card as determined by the power symbols.

The K.O card comes into effect if you win your turn by defeating your opponents power card and also if your card has the same power symbol as your opponents K.O card. If these two conditions are met you can try for a K.O shot. Flick your Gogo towards your opponents Gogo. If you hit their Gogo you instantly win the game regardless of previous points. If you miss the shot you still retain your one point from that turn, just replace the Gogo on the K.O card and continue play.

Okay so it does sound kind of complicated, however if you purchase the Starter pack you get a set of illistrated rules and they explain the game much better than I have, however I did try my best.

Most Wanted Gogo’s

These Gogos are highlighted with a star in my list. The most wanted Gogos are extremly rare versions of other Gogos.

I do think that this series of Gogos is better than the previous versions. I think that the collectros album that you can get to put the cards in is lovely and really sturdy and covered in plastic, much better than the sticker albums which are looking a bit dog-eared now.

I also think that although the card game is quite weak it adds an extra element of competitiveness to the Gogos game and is a bit more exciting than just flicking them over.

Go crazy for these cuddly Gogo’s toys

You’ve got to admit it, collecting Gogo’s Crazy Bones is massively addictive.

Since my son bought his first packet, we’ve enjoyed collecting them all together. He currently collects the first generation, the red ones as we were quite slow to get into the Gogo’s thing. Though I’m sure once all those are found he’ll be onto the Gogo’s Crazy Bones Evolution set.

For full information about each series, Gogo’s names and abilities, see the links below

He loves looking through the albums at all the different types of Gogo’s, so I bought him posters of both the original and Evolution set of Gogo’s. They list all the names and have little pictures too, he just loves them. The new poster with the new Gogo’s Crazy Bones Explorer’s on them is due to be released soon, so I’ve pre-ordered that one already.

Also due to be released soon is a range of Gogo’s plush toys.

The Crazy Bones Reverser is a plush Gogo which can be turned inside out to create a different Gogo toy. They also come with an ultra-rare Gogo’s Crazy Bones as well.

The other plush I noticed was the Plush Bone Shaker. Coming with 3 Gogo’s included, you can use this toy as a shaker in all of the Gogo’s games you play. Coming in a variety of different Gogo’s, I can see these being really popular.

And lastly how do you fancy a Gogo keyring. Attach them to your school bag, Jeans even hand bag. Take your Gogo’s with you everywhere, as they have a zipped pocket on the back for carrying them. Comes with 2 Gogo’s.

Gogo’s Crazy Bones Evolution

The latest craze hitting playground’s up and down the country is Gogo’s.

If you haven’t got children you probably won’t have even heard of them, but trust me there causing a real stir. Some schools have even banned their use on school property, claiming they are too much of a distraction in lessons.

Following on from my previous post about the first series of Gogo’s Crazy Bones, this is all about the Gogo’s Crazy Bones Evolution range.

Go gos Crazy Bones are small figures that can be used in several types of fun games, see my previous post for a list of the games and their rules.

The main difference this time is that the Gogo’s have evolved. They have an evolution rating letting you know how much each Gogo has evolved,  from level one up to level fifteen maximum evolution. Some Gogo’s have even attained Transparent Evolution, these are rarer than the original colours.

Once again there are 80 different Gogo’s to collect, and each is available in 5 different colours.

Gogo’s Crazy Bones

My son came home from Nursery yesterday telling me all about these cool little men that his friend had brought in a special bag to show him, They were called Gogo’s he told me.  And he wanted some too.

I was stumped, I’ve never heard of Gogo’s. What are they? What do they do? Where do we even get them from? I really knew nothing about Gogos.

So we went off to the toyshop to search out some Gogo’s. I found out that there actually called Gogo’s CrazyBones and that there’s already 3 sets of them. We decided to start off with the Series one which come in red packets.

There are 80 Gogo’s to collect from each collection. The good part is that they only cost £1.00 for a pack of 3, so you can easily build up a great collection with your pocket money. Shops up and down the country are also running Go gos swap shops as well, to help you complete your collection. You also get a sticker of each of your Gogo’s in each packet, that you can put into an album. Just another reason why they appeal to kids so much, all kids love collecting and sticker albums. Put them together and you’ve got a huge hit!

Here’s a bit of back history about Gogo’s Crazy Bones. Aparently this game of Crazy Bones has been played for hundreds of years, inspired by the ancient Greek game of Tabas. Tabas or also known as Astragals was originally played with sheep’s knuckle bones, hence the Crazy Bones name nice!

Thankfully the modern day Crazy Bones are made of plastic not bone. Each coming in 5 different colours, there are also 5 special rare Gogo’s which come in multicolour.

Gogo’s Games

Here is how to play all of the official Gogos Crazy Bones games.

Scoring: With this game you take it in turns to choose 5 Gogos and throw them all up in the air at the same time. Scoring is based around how your Gogo eventually lands. If the Gogo is standing you earn 5 points, sideways 2 points, facing downwards 1 point, facing upwards bad luck you get no points. The player with the most points after 3 turns, wins the game.

Bowling: Each player places an equal number of Gogo’s on the floor, just away from the wall. You then take turns trying to knock down your opponents Gogo’s. It doesnt matter if you knock down your own Gogo’s that doesn’t count just stand them back up. However knocks down the most Gogo’s wins.

On Line: For this game you need to either find a line on the ground or draw on yourself, then each player takes a turn at throwing a Gogo. However throws closest to the line wins the throw. Winner is the player with the most won throws.

Battle: You and your opponent must place your battalion of Gogo’s in a line opposite each other. After deciding how many turns your going to each have, each player has a turn trying to knock down the most Gogo’s in one throw. The player with the highest number of knockdowns is the winner.

K.O.: This is my personal favourite Gogo game. Firstly it’s best to draw a circle on the ground, then Each player places an agreed equal number of Gogo’s in the circle. Then each player has a turn at throwing on of their Gogo’s into the circle, trying to knock their opponenents ones out. If one of the Gogo’s falls over inside the circle, put it back in position. The player which has the most Gogo’s left in the circle at the end of the game is the winner.

In Flight: This is a really fun game, another favourite. Me and my son enjoy playing this one. Both players separately place 4 Gogo’s into a square shape and 1 extra Gogo in the middle. Take the middle Gogo and throw it up in the air. Whilst midair try to pick up the four Gogo’s and finally catch the flying Gogo before it hits the ground. You get a point for every Gogo you pick up, providing you catch the flying Gogo as well. If you don’t catch the thrown Gogo you get no points. Winner with the most points wins.

Basket: For this game it’s a good idea that each player uses 5 Gogo’s of the same colour eg.. Player one all red , player two all blue. You will also need a box or container you can throw the Gogo’s into. Each player takes turns throwing their Gogo’s and trying to get them in the basket. Player with the most in the basket wins.

An official bag is a good idea, making your Gogo’s portable and ready for play anywhere.

My son has only just started with his collection, but it looks like I’ll be seeing a lot more of these little mites.
