Hot Wheels 10 in 1 Superset – Review

Hot Wheels are one of my youngest most played with toys. He can sit for hours it seems lining up his car collection and then racing them down his various ramps and tracks.

We’ve had the pleasure of testing a couple of great track sets from Hot Wheels over the years, but the Hot Wheels Super 10 in 1 Trackset  is by far and away the best we’ve ever reviewed or played with.

As the name suggests you get everything included in the box to not only create 1 awesome Hot Wheels track, but 10.

Theres over 21 feet of track, loops, curves, and two battery-powered booster areas. One Hot Wheels car is also included.

Instructions on how to build each track are included, but they do need some getting used to. It took me a while to get into the swing of putting track number 1 together, but once I got the hang of what the instructions were saying I was fine. It took me around 40 minutes to do the first track as I kept having to redo bits I’d got wrong. However the finished track was so worth it. Amazing fun!

The set was so big when assembled, I couldn’t even capture all of it in the one photograph.

The other 9 tracks were much quicker to build as I had the idea by then.

Once you’ve mastered all 10 tracks you can set about building Hot Wheels creations of your own. We haven’t got that far yet though, as the 10 are still giving us so much pleasure.

Track number 1 is the Toybuzz family favourite. Even our cat Harry loves it.

The big red box in the photo and video are the boosters. The batteries are not included for these, so you’ll need 4 size D batteries in all. These boosters are a set of continually rolling wheels which push your Hot Wheels car through and give it a boost to make it around the track.

The boosters help the car simply fly around the track, and it’s just great watching the car zipping around and around.

The included car obviously works amazingly on the track, but you can use your own Hot Wheels cars too depending on the shape. They need to be more streamlined ones, and not too heavy. We managed to get 3 cars zipping around at the same time, but more cars mean more chances of them coming off the track. The track vibrates as the cars go through the loops, so if you add more cars the track doesn’t have a chance to stabilise itself and the cars will come off. However that’s all part of the fun isn’t it.

The Hot Wheels 10 in 1 Super set is a definite winner.

If your son or daughter is a Hot Wheels fan than this set will go down a storm on Christmas Day. Plus the massive box it comes in will look great wrapped under the tree.

Suitable for Ages: 4+ RRP: £49.99

Thanks to Mattel for sending us the 10 in 1 Superset for review

Top 10 Boys Toys for Christmas 2012

Well it’s that time of year again. Time for me to get rubbing at my crystal ball and start predicting what your little darlings would love to see Santa to leave for them underneath the Christmas Tree.

So this year I’m starting off with the boys list, and will be adding the other lists over the next few days.

Check out the other lists here:

Top Ten Girls Toys for Christmas 2012

Top Ten Toddler Toys for Christmas 2012

Top Ten Baby Toys for Christmas 2012

As always the lists aren’t in any sort of order of importance, it’s just the top 10 things that I think most boys will be after this year.

Trash Pack Scum Drum Playset

Ok I’ll admit this now, When I first saw the Trash Pack I was vehemently against the whole concept. They look smelly, Putrid, Mucky, Messy, and everything in-between. They even have flock covered ones which represent mould!

However it looks like Trash Pack are here to stay and who am I to argue, they are for the kids I suppose. Plus I’m a sucker for these little collections and their fun playsets so I’m starting to warm to them slightly.

I’m still not a huge fan, but the boys do seem to be going for Trash Pack in a big way so I thought it deserved to be on the Top Ten of most wanted boys toys.

Both of my boys have put this on their lists to Santa even though I’ve always said no to everything Trash Pack before, so I’m either softening in my old age or the nagging has finally worked.

Jacob also wants the Trash Pack Garbage Truck Playset, so that’s another option to consider.

Lego Hero Factory

If your already a reader of my blog you’ll know that my boys are massive fans of all things Lego, as are most young children especially boys.

However the Lego Hero Factory heroes are definitely a departure from the familiar bricks and mini-figures. Theres nothing mini about these guys!

Following on from the tremendously popular Lego Bionicle line of toys, The Lego Hero Factory range seems to be getting better and better with each new set. The latest story arc Lego Hero Factory:Breakout is by far the best yet.

There are six Hero Factory figures to collect (seven if you count the larger Stormer XL), and a fair few rather menacing villains to complete the range. In my opinion they are great value for money, won’t break being Lego they go back together easily, and will keep youngsters entertained for hours upon hours. The figures are the ideal Christmas present for inquisitive, creative young boys.

Just think about it, at least this is one present you won’t have to struggle to put together, just leave them to it and put your feet up with a little Christmas Tipple.

Nerf N Strike Elite Hail-Fire

This is one for the really big boys, recommended for ages 8 and over.

It’s Nerf’s latest and greatest Dart Blaster, and this one is an absolute beast.

Capable of shooting targets 75ft away, the Hail-Fire can hold up to 144 Elite Darts.

It’s semi automatic, so you can quickly unleash an almighty barrage of Nerf darts in seconds.

Obviously this one is not for Nerf Newbies, but if your already an aficionado then you just wont be able to get enough of this baby.

Jacob would go crazy for a Nerf blaster like this, but at the moment he will have to make do with his Nite-Finder and Whistler Darts. Although he does look so cute in his tactical vest :)

Hexbug Nano Hive Set

Boys love their bugs and creepy crawlies don’t they, but unfortunately us mums and dads are usually less enthusiastic.

Well the Hexbug Nano Hive is the perfect compromise. The kids get to watch their creepy crawlies, expect to mum and dads approval as the bugs are not real and are mere mini robotic versions.

The great thing about these little robotic critters is that they are not only very cool but also educational to boot. They behave exactly like a real bug would, they flip over, they scuttle around, they are truly amazing to watch.

With the Nano Habitat set you get 1 extremely rare mutation of Hexbug, 16 Flags which send the Hexbugs in different directions, 2 merry go rounds, a see-saw, and a ramp to take your Hexbugs up to the top floor.

With these you can create tons of different mazes for your Hexbugs to explore when used with the Hexbug Nano Habitat. Close the doors, open the doors, watch as your Hexbugs run around and guess where they are going to go next. My boys even enjoy racing theirs.

Skylanders Giants

Skylanders was undoubtedly the big winner of Christmas 2011. It was absolutely huge.

So huge in fact that Activision have a hard act with the follow-up of Spyro’s adventure – So they decided to make it literally Giant! Skylanders Giants that is

Skylanders Giants sees the return of the evil Kaos who after being banished to Earth manages to return to Skylands via a Portal of Power he finds in a toy shop.

All the figures from the original Skylanders are compatible with Skylanders Giants as well. While I’m in not sure how thats possible I think it’s awesome, I’m not prepared to give up my level 10 Trigger Happy just yet.

The new Skylanders Giants are bigger and more powerful than their smaller counterparts, plus they have Lightcore powers which mean they also look very cool standing on the Portal of Power.

Skylanders Giants is available for the Wii,3DS, PS3, Xbox360 and PC on the 19th October 2012.

Hot Wheels Sets

Ok a bit of a cheat but I couldn’t decide between the Team Hot Wheels Double Dare Snare set and the Hot Wheels Mega Loop Mayhem set, so I just had to include them both.

Every top ten boys toys lists needs some Hot Wheels action on it, so just think of it as a bonus that this year you have 2 sets to choose from.

The Double Dare snare is very long when fully set up and looks really impressive as a present.

It’s great fun and I can see all the family getting involved on Christmas Day with this one.

Sorry - no matching products found.

The Hot Wheels Mega Loop Mayhem set is full of multi car mayhem as you race up to 4 cars at once through huge loops, multiple crash zones and 10 feet of track

You can control the speed of the cars around the track by using the two levers to decide when to release your cars and when to use your boosters

.Have hours of fun racing your mates and waiting to see who gets caught in the crash zone and who survives to race another day.

Looks like it’s going to be another classic Hot Wheels Set

Razor E90 Electric Scooter

The new Razor E90 Electric Scooter is the latest model of Razor’s amazingly successful range of Elecrtirc scooters.

Capable of speeds up to 9MPH, this baby is a serious cool ride when your 8 years old!  So much infact I want one too

A quick twist of the throttle and your on your way. The Razor E90 is quick, quiet and one smooth ride.

Obviously safety gear will be needed, and it’s not for use in Traffic. This machine is purely for adrenaline junkie kids looking for some high-octane fun rather than a road worthy vehicle.

It has a running time of 50 minutes on a full charge, which isn’t bad considering. Plus the quiet motor should prevent any run ins with the neighbours about the noise.

If Santa leaves your youngsters this machine under the Christmas tree, you’ll have no problems getting them off their games consoles and outside in the fresh air. You’ll probably have more trouble getting them back in!

Ben 10 Omniverse Toys

Another Year, Another Ben 10!

This Time Ben is now 16 years old and doesn’t have his cousin Gwen or Kevin to rely on, so in comes newcomer Rook to give Ben a hand. Along with Grandpa Max of course.

As well as the obligatory new Omnitrix, which every Ben 10 simply must have, I really like the look of the new aliens, they make some great figures.

Gravattack, Feedback, Bloxx, they’re all good. However Shocksquatch is definitely my favorite already just from the figure. I have no idea of his special moves, or what he sounds like, but I love him already.

As for the Playsets Rook’s Truck seems like it’s going to be doing big business. Already having won Best Action Figures/Accessories at the 2012 London Toy Fair it looks set to be very in demand.

Lego Monster Fighters Vampyre Castle

Monster Fighters is Lego’s brand new product range based around the theme of the classic horror films and books like Frankenstein and Dracula.

Dr Rodney Rathbone is the leader of the Monster Fighters, and whose sole aim is to take down the creatures of the monster realm.

To help him along the way he’s banded together a group of 4 like-minded Minifigs, Major Quinton Steele, Jack Mchammer, Frank Rock and Ann Lee

The Monster Realm consists of 14 of the most gruesome and vile creatures you could ever wish to come across. Lord Vampyre, Manbat and the Zombies probably being the most prominent of the group.

The story revolves around Lord Vampyres plan to Use 6 moon stones to permanently turn day into night. Obviously this is the last thing the Monster Fighters want, and they are going to need all of their courage and skills to stop him.

I Love the fact that this is an original Lego idea, and not just another licensed set. Don’t get me wrong, I love the licensed stuff, but it’s nice to have something brand new too.

I think Monster Fighters will do really well for Lego this Christmas time, and that the Vampyre Castle will be the big seller.

Hot Wheels Wall Tracks Mid Air Madness – Review

Me and the boys have been having some smashing fun this Bank Holiday Weekend – And when I say smashing I do literally mean stuff smashing together, Namely Hot Wheels Cars.

You see we’ve been testing the new Mid Air Madness set from Hot Wheels Wall Tracks range.

Jacob has seen Wall Tracks advertised a lot on television recently, so was really excited when we received a set to review.

The set was very easy to set up and get going with. Firstly you need to hang up the poster, which gives you an amazing background to your racing fun. After that the special 3M adhesive strips need to be attached to the larger pieces of track for extra stability. That’s about it really, just join up the rest of the track together and then your ready and raring to go.

The set comes with one car included, but all the Hot Wheels we tried worked to some degree. It was a case of trial and error, as some were bigger and slower, and some were so fast they zoomed right off the end of the track. Playing around with the cars is all part of the fun though, and even when the cars got stuck or smashed spectacularly we were all laughing and enjoying it.

As you can see from the video below, the boys and me all loved playing with the Wall Tracks. As a parent the best part for me was that there was no huge car tracks snaked all over the floor. Having it up out of the wall is a genius idea, plus as it’s something totally different the kids think it’s very cool.

(Apologies for the very bad camerawork in the video. It’s really hard to hold the camera and sort out the track at the same time. Hopefully you get the idea that we all had a lot of fun with it)

One word of warning about the 3M command strips. I was a bit wary of putting the Track up on my walls as I was worried about the paintwork, even though the adhesive strips are supposed to be paintwork and wallpaper friendly. So I placed the set up on a wall which I wasn’t overly concerned about as it’s due a lick of paint very soon anyway, and hoped that the command strips would price me wrong.

Unfortunately for the wall Jacob’s car took a spectacularly big jump and ended up knocking a big piece of track out-of-place, and as it fell off it pulled the paint off the wall with it.

I have to admit I was slightly disappointed with this, but in all honesty I’m not sure if the paint wasn’t the best anyway, so maybe it was just a one-off incident. Even though I suggest you take it into consideration when deciding where to place your Wall Tracks set.

At the end of the day we had a total blast with the Hot Wheels Wall Tracks Mid Air Madness set, and dispute the paint issue at the end I would highly recommend it to other parents out there. A brilliant fun toy that the kids will love, and the big kid in you just can’t help to enjoy too.

Maybe not for your best living room wall though.

I had a great time at the show, and as you can imagine was in my element playing with all the new toys and gadgets, I also got loads of new ideas for toys to cover in the future. So be prepared for a Toybuzz deluge, as it’s look like Dream Toys is going to keep me busy all the way up until the big day itself!

Toy Train Tables

I’ve already started thinking about Christmas time (OK I know it’s early, but good to make a head start!). When we were in Early Learning Centre recently both of my boys made a beeline for the Thomas the Tank Engine Train Table, so I’ve been considering getting them a nice train set to share.

The Thomas the Tank Engine set from the Early Learning Centre is stunning and has lots to keep two little boys occupied.

However the cost is a factor, it is a lot of money for a train set. The table and train set have to be purchased separately. You could use any set with the play table, but this is the one which is set up in the stores so I know my sons would be expecting this one.

If your little one is a mad Thomas fan then this would be an amazing gift. However although my sons like Thomas and appreciate the styling I don’t think I need to pay the extra for it, they’d be just as happy with another set.

Another possibility is the Step 2 Deluxe Canyon and Train Track Table, an ingeniously designed table which takes cars and trains in its inbuilt recessed track.

The immediate appeal of this table is that the track and various bridges are moulded into the table, so no more putting pieces back together ever again (hurray!!).

Another great feature is the wipe clean hardboard lid, which means it can be used as an activity table for drawing activities and games etc. The lid also means that all the car’s and trains can be left on the tracks and just covered over, ready for another day’s play tomorrow with no more searching around for lost locomotives (hurray again!!!).

The set does come with 3 basic trains and cars, however most major types like Thomas, Brio and Hotwheels are all compatible.

Sorry - no matching products found.

Another possible contender in the train table stakes is Toys R Us’s own City Train Table and Railway Set . A great looking set that would undoubtedly make an impressive Christmas present.

The set includes over 100 pieces including trains, trucks, people, trees and a helicopter, and 23 feet of track. This is also the first table I’ve seen to have electronic lights and sounds.

I like the idea of the big drawer at the front to keep all the pieces in, however I’m not sure I want to put the thing together every day.

Again this set works with all the other major types of trains like Brio and Thomas Tank.

And where would a page about wooden train sets be without a mention of the almighty Brio. I’ve got a real infatuation with Brio trains for some reason, and really have my heart set on getting my son’s one (although I’m really tempted by the Step 2).

I really like the simplicity of this train table and set, I’m sure that it would take only a few minutes to set up everyday.

I’m also swayed by the way that I could purchase the smallest set first whilst they are younger and then add on new pieces year on year.

Also from Brio is their new Set’s aimed at toddlers featuring Disney characters.

This beautiful Mickey Mouse Clubhouse styled train set would definitely be a big hit with my two boys, they love Mickey!

As you can see the clubhouse part is removable with a netting bag underneath for keeping all your pieces together.

Also available in the new Disney range is a set of My Friends Tigger and Pooh Train Sets.

Decisions, Decisions. I bet you can’t believe that there is so much choice in Train Set Tables. Going to have to go and have a good think about it!

Monster Jam

We took my eldest Thomas to see the Monster Trucks this weekend at Monster Jam.

Everyone had a great time even though it was a really late night, well past Thomas’ bedtime.

Obviously as happens whenever you go anywhere, there was plenty of merchandise available. We picked up a cuddly Donkey Kong truck for Jacob who was left at home for the night with his gran, he would have really loved to have seen them as he loves trucks and bikes but he’s just too small at the minute. Next year maybe.

We had tickets to go to the Pit Party beforehand, which was fun. Got the chance to get some great pictures of Thomas with all the trucks. He was amazed at how big they were.

Thomas has decided that Grave Digger is his favourite Monster Truck, as he’s scary and has a haunted mansion on the side like in Scooby Doo. He’s pictured here holding his beloved Dracula Scooby Doo figure, he thinks this should be Dracula’s car.

So he bought a Hot Wheels Grave Digger Super Speeder, with a rip cord attached that when pulled speeds across the floor.

Since we’ve got home he’s been setting up some ramps and things around the room for Grave Digger to jump over, but now he want’s more Monster Trucks so he can set up some races and have his own Monster Jam!

Hot Wheels Colour Shifter Blaster

Whilst shopping the other day when we bought the Kevin Levin lookalike Hot Wheels car, We also bought a new colourshifting Hot Wheels car for Jacob. I know he’s only 15 months old, but he loves playing with the garage with his brother already.

The new colour shifters range of cars, change colour when they come into contact with water. A bit like those Global Hypercolour t-shirts that were all the rage in the 90’s.

Little did I know that my small cash investment in a small toy car would lead to cries for a new plaything to use it with.

When we got home Thomas happily watched as his car changed colour when placed under the running water of the tap, he was suitably impressed. That was until he saw the advert on Cartoon Network for the Hot Wheels Colour Shifter Blaster, he couldn’t hide his excitement.

The Hot Wheels Colour Shifter Blaster has a spray water gun to enable you to spray wash your cars a different colour, and  two water tanks that you fill with cold and hot water for dipping the cars into. The playset also comes with one colour shifter car included to get you started. Once the cars have been adequately soaked they spring a lever and the cars rise onto a ramp and hurtle down a slope to the bottom.

A big reservation I have about this toy is the mess factor. The car is placed onto a small drip tray circle with a one sided perspex shield, when you use the spray gun. I’m not convinced that the tiny shield is enough to protect my surfaces from getting wet, so maybe it would be better used outside or on a wipeable mat.

Sorry - no matching products found.

I can see how small boys would think this was really cool, and even to me the advert makes it look like fun.

Ive checked around online and a lot of retailers are showing it out of stock, so the adverts are obviously working.

I think this would make a good present for the Easter holidays. Perfect for keeping my son entertained whilst at home and if the weather brightens up I can send him outside with it as well. If Thomas’ arm-twisting does work and I cave in and buy it for him i’ll post a review. Watch this space.

Kevin Levin’s Muscle Car for Pocket Money Price

As predicted by me, just like the last incarnation of Ben 10 now Thomas wants to collect all the new Ben 10 Alien Force toys.

He really wants(or needs!) the Omnitrix Projector and Kevin Levin’s Action Cruiser. Ive told him he has to wait until either he has saved enough money or failing that his birthday, and he’s okay with that.

Whilst shopping at Sainsburys today we noticed a small Hot Wheels car that looks exactly like Kevin Levins muscle car.  I decided to buy it for him as it was only £1.10 and it’ll be worth it to stop hearing “Can I have that for my birthday” every time we see it.

Sorry - no matching products found.

It’s a good alternative to the real thing and miniature, so it’s portable and can be carried around in small hands and pockets.

A good pocket money purchase for any Ben 10 fan.

The exact model name is Hot Wheels 2008 First Editions Dodge Challenger SRT8.
