Moshi Monsters Series 11 Countdown – Day Seven

Moshi Monsters Series 11 Countdown

We are so proud that once again we’ve been asked to host one of the Moshi Monsters Series 11 countdown’s alongside a few other fellow bloggers.

Everyday from now until the Launch day of 29th August we’ll be revealing one new Series 11 Moshling.

Once we get to the end, it’ll be the big day 29th August – The day when you’ll be able to rush into the stores and pick up your own Series 11 Moshi’s.

Were already up to Day Seven. Lets see who’s coming out to play today.

It’s Darwin – The Dithering Dodo

It’s hardly surprising Dithering Dodos are so rare because they can’t decide if they are coming or going.

In fact these incredibly indecisive Moshlings can’t even decide if they can fly, and can often be seen dithering around towering ice ledges preparing to jump… before changing their minds. Again!

Dithering Dodo’s can usually be found up ontop of the Frostipop Glacier.

They love Cosy beanies and beak polish, and Dislike Sailors and the smell of stuffing.

Be sure to come back tomorrow to see who’s next to be revealed

Thanks to Vivid Toys and Games and Mind Candy for letting us once again be part of the Moshi Monsters fun.

Todays Moshling buddy is literally cracking under the pressure

it’s Benedict the Broken Booble

Broken Booble’s have a hard time managing to keep themselves together, as they are constantly cracking up.

And it’s not down to all those funny Edinburgh festival jokes. These are Eggy moshlings with fragile shells.

The only way to keep themselves in one piece is to tie colourful bows around their heads.

However their arms are so short they have to ask passersby to help, so watch out.

It’s Monday Monday, and Day Five of our countdown to the launch of Moshi Monsters Series 11

Todays new Moshling being revealed is Fusty – the Fabled Fungi

Fusty is a super douper Ultra Rare Moshling

I’m not usually a big fan of mushrooms, but i’m trying to eat healthier recently so maybe Fusty can change my mind.

Fabled Fungi’s may look old but they are young at heart.

I love that Fusty has a big beard and moustache, as he’s usually too busy raving to be shaving!

Be sure to come back tomorrow to see who’s next to be revealed

Thanks to Vivid Toys and Games and Mind Candy for letting us once again be part of the Moshi Monsters fun.

Todays latest addition is Pizmo the Perky Pixinaut

Experts believe Perky Pixinauts first arrived in the world of Moshi on a magical asteroid that smashed into the area we now know as Copperfield Canyon.

But that was ages ago because these ultra-intelligent Moshlings now lecture at various Moshiversities, where they teach students how to make bottle rockets, tinfoil spaceships and cardboard craters.

Tricky to say where you’d find them living, because Perky Pixinauts can beam themselves anywhere by squeezing their head-mounted transporter bobbles.

Pizmo likes Time warps and stargazing, but dislikes Gravity and slack holes.

Were up to day three already.

and it’s now time to meet Troy – The Macho Minotaur

Once these powerfully strong Moshlings were used by ancient monsters to stand guard over the huge Rox hoard stored in the maze beneath the Puzzle Palace.

However these days Troy and the rest of the Macho Minotaur’s make their money selling hair for wigs, or appearing in pantos.

I’m not quite sure which one is worse :)

It’s sad really as they list hair clippers as one of their dislikes. So they obviously don’t like giving away their hair really.

Day two and today we have possibly the best names Moshling ever!!

It’s Doyle the Defective Detective

If a crime needs solving you can always rely on a Defective Detective… to mess things up!

Maybe it’s my Sherlock obsession clouding my opinion, but Doyle is a brilliant new Moshi.

Rather than being a magnifying glass as you would think, Doyle’s eye is actually a microscope.

Maybe that’s why he keeps missing the clues and messing things up.

Be sure to come back tomorrow to see who’s next to be revealed

Here we go again with another fabulous Moshi Monsters countdown!

Day one and we welcome Bonnie the Sassie Lassie

Say howdy doody to the whip-cracking Moshlings that love yeehah-ing their way around the world of Moshi

Bonnie and the Sassie Lassie’s are rootin’ tootin’ willd west moshi’s

Bonnie is an Ultra Rare moshling

They love baked beans and wagon trails

however they stay clear of Shady Sheriffs and designer saddles

I just love Bonnie’s moshling figure. She looks a lot like a cute coyote, but you can see in her smile she has a bit of a wild side.

Rubik’s Cube turns 40 – Review

You may remember last year me taking part in the ‘Cuber In Training’ blogger challenge, with me finally completing the cube in 4mins 16 secs.

Well this year that twisty turny coloured menace of a cube turns 40 years old, and to celebrate the anniversary we were kindly sent some more Rubik’s goodies to test.

First Invented in 1974, it was in the 80’s that the worldwide obsession with the cube took over. Making the Rubik’s Cube synonymous with the decade as much so as leg warmers and Wham!

As a child of the 80’s the Rubik’s Cube will always hold a special place in my heart. In fact it’s the one and only toy I can remember me, my uncles and even my grandfather all trying our hand at. My granddad impartial is still a massive fan, and I often found him trying to complete it all these years later.

As well as the lovely old Rubik’s Cube, we were also sent a mini keyring version which is gorgeous, but so small it makes the solving even harder if that’s possible.

Our favourites though out of our bloggers box was the Rubik’s Twist (which my husband says used to be called the snake) and Rubik’s Race which is an awesome two player game.

The Rubik’s Twist has been such a revelation, the kids have been totally glued to it. Fighting over who gets to use it next. Which has been great, I love that they have been off their gadgets for a while and creating fun shapes with their hands and imaginations. It’s a real brain teaser.

Rather than having a single solution, the Rubik’s Twist is made for creativity. It’s basically up to you what you want to make of it. Try to put it back into a circle, making a pattern in the colours, making a shape like a cat or zig zag. The boys have really gone to town and enjoyed the flexibility of not having a pre-determined end solution to aim for.

Rubik’s Race is Thomas and I’s new thing to do together during our quiet time before bed.

Although we have so much fun it’s maybe not quiet, but it’s something not involving a screen.

Each player has a board with 24 coloured tiles (4 of each colour).

One player shakes the tumbler. Inside are 9 little coloured cubes, the game is to match the pattern that the cubes in the tumbler make on your own big board.

You do this buy moving around the tiles until the patterns match. The first one to match the pattern correctly is the winner. It’s fast, fun, but ever so tricky, and brutal when your one tile away from finishing and your opponent smash’s down his panel to say he’s won.

We have had so much fun with game. It’s the best game we’ve played for a long while, and so addictive.

If all this talk of Rubik’s cubes has got you all nostalgic, then head on over to Google’s CubeLab where you can play online Rubik’s inspired games and digital artwork.

Thanks so much to John Adams for sending these Rubik’s goodies for us to try out.

Mario Kart 8 Blogger Challenge Week One

Last Friday the 30th May saw the gaming release everyone has been waiting for – Mario Kart 8 is finally here.

We were lucky enough to get a visit from the postman with a special Nintendo Mario Kart package thanks to us being Nintendo Family bloggers.

The game is awesome, totally totally awesome. Mario Kart has never looked so good. Everything is so bright and vibrant, the tracks look stunning.

The best thing in my opinion is being able to play on the Wii-U gamepad. Jacob and I both love watching all the other competitors on the map as were racing.

You can even see when someone picks up a power up, or when you hit someone with your banana skin or shell.

We love the new Mario Kart Tv as well, with which you can upload 30 second highlights of your race either onto Youtube, the Miiverse, online at Mario TV website, or the smart phone app.

The new power ups in Mario Kart 8 are really cool. Our fave is the big red horn which you can use to blast other nearby racers or smash that pesky blue shell that’s coming for you. So much satisfaction in dodging that blue shell.

Blogger Challenges

In our special package from Nintendo were a series of blogger challenges.

Firstly for the next 8 weeks we will be running a family challenge to see who’s the fastest on various tracks. Who will win kids or the parents?

At the moment it looks like parents have the upper hand as our youngest Jacob managed to break his wrist last week,. So now has a cast all the way up to his shoulder.

Happily though Mario Kart 8 is the one game that he can still play.

Although he’s obviously at a massive disadvantage as he can’t use the triggers, he’s just happy to be playing.

He even cried on friday when he thought he wouldn’t be able to play, so he’s just having fun enjoying himself.

Time Trials

So here it is week one of the Toybuzz family Mario Kart 8 Time Trials.

At the moment I’m in the lead with Daddy trailing behind. I was really surprised that there was only 1-2 seconds between Thomas and Jacob on both courses considering Jacob’s injury. If he was 100% I think he’d be ahead of all of us.

Here’s the results in full.

mariokart

As well as the ongoing time trials, every week we have another more creative project to challenge us. For this week the kids were asked to create their own Mario Kart.

Jacob’s broken wrist saw him on the benches on this one, so it was all up to Thomas to win it for the team.

His kart idea is a Mario and Luigi style jet powered skate board. He thinks it would be great for getting some good air over all the ramps and jumps. The parachute which comes out the back is shaped like a Bullet Bill power up, and he says it’ll go as fast as you would if you picked up the power up. Bit of a cheat, but a great idea.

I’d love to see what Mario would look like on a skateboard, and think it’s a great idea. Hopefully Nintendo will take note and it may get added for next time.

Next week we’ll be seeing who’s fastest around Toad Harbour and Shy Guy Falls, and building our own Mario kart track. Let’s see if I can keep my place onto of the leaderboard :)

Disclosure: Thanks so much to Nintendo Uk for sending us Mario Kart 8 for review. You Guys are amazing!
