Discover the Extreme World Book – Review
My six-year-old Thomas is very interested in Animals, Dinosaurs, Machines and Vehicles, much like most young boys around his age. So he was thrilled when I new book arrived for him to review filled with all theses sorts of things and more , ‘Discovery Channel – Discover the Extreme World’ from Miles Kelly.
The book is split up into 6 main categories :
- Active Earth
- Awesome Animals
- Incredible Science
- Ultimate Machines
- Super Humans
- History Revealed
Each section is then broken down into lots and lots of pages full of facts and figures, but done in a very kid friendly way. Each page although quite wordy as there is a lot of information contained in this book is done in a very bright and inviting way. On every page there are amazing pictures and graphics which are used to great effect, illustrating the facts in a way my youngster finds easy to understand. He may not be able to read the book on his own yet, but enjoys just flicking through the pages and looking at the interesting pictures. However this really is a book that will last him for years and years, and he will get more and more out of it the older he gets.
At the moment his favourite tv program is Deadly 60 as he just loves watching Steve and finding out about all of the different animals around the world, so his favourite part of the book has definitely been the Awesome Animals. There are so many gross, cool and unusual facts to be found in this book, he’s been kept busy looking through it for hours.
For me as a parent the thing that impressed me the most about this book is the sheer range of subjects covered. Flicking through the pages you can learn all about such an eclectic mix of things as mummification, Aztec Sacrifice, Freak Weather, Tectonic Plates, DNA & the Human Genome Project, and spy planes amongst many many other things.
If you have a youngster who’s forever asking difficult questions, or wanting to know more and more about everything this book is the thing to get them. Highly recommended.
