The Black Eyed Peas Experience – Review

Our latest review from the pack of games that we were sent from the team at Ubisoft is The Black Eyed Peas Experience.

It actually arrived on a really good day as it was the night before Thomas’ school disco, and he was looking to learning some new moves before strutting his stuff on the dance floor (looking to impress his little girlfriend I think). We decided to jump right into it and started up our very own Dance Party, which is basically the quick mode where you just choose a song and get going.

We choose “I Got A Feeling” to start with as that’s a big favourite of the kids, me I’m more of a Lady Lumps girls but there you go. Thankfully the track listing is likely to please every BEP fan as there are so many songs to choose from. I can’t think of any major songs that are missing, so big thumbs up for the track listing!

After having a good play around with the Dance Party Mode, I decided to progress onto the Deluxe Experience. In this mode you choose an avatar, customise them, then try to progress through the levels learning new steps and gaining followers as you go. To progress to the next level you must have mastered the moves well enough to gain the required amount of new followers. As an added bonus when you do raise your follower count enough you get a nice gift to customise your avatar with. I currently have a studded belt, Tattoo and snazzy Hi Top Trainers.

Unlike most dancing games where I always play the Quick start version and not the progression mode option, I actually prefer the Deluxe Experience mode on the Black Eyed Peas Experience. I prefer the way that you get time to practice the moves before you get scored on how well you do them, but obviously once you have mastered the moves and remembered them the Dance Party mode would be easier.

For me personally the difficulty level of the game was just right. The dances marked as easiest I was flying through, and the ones marked as mid way I was ok with once I’d practiced a few times. I do however think that the marking of the dancing is much more forgiving than Just Dance 3, so if you’re a perfectionist you might be disappointed. For example there were several times when I know I wasn’t doing the move correctly but was still getting a good rating, so if this would bother you then maybe a harsher judge like Just Dance 3 would be more up your street.

Being relatively new to dancing games and also being totally uncoordinated I haven’t yet tried out the Create your own choreography mode, but I’m having so much fun with the BEP Experience I’m sure I’ll give it a go soon.

I’ve really enjoyed playing the Black Eyed Peas Experience, mostly because unlike some other tie-ins this game does actually feel like The Black Eyed Peas. The whole vibe of the game feels true to the group, it’s not just a generic dancing game with Black Eyed Peas songs stuck on top. The on-screen representations of the band look so realistic, and it feels great to dance along and pretend you’re the newest member of the band. Like I said before the fact that the scoring sometimes veer’s to the easy side might put some dance aficionados off, but for the casual player and the kids it’s a really fun game, and a great way to spend a very energetic hour of family time after school.
